Fenwick Newcastle recently announced plans for a multi-million pound revamp of its food hall which will see the addition of several new eateries including a seafood and oyster bar, a South East Asian street food outlet, a Mediterranean restaurant and bakery-patisserie-café.
The new look food hall has been developed by award winning London based design consultancy, CADA Design, who have previously worked with Harrods and Fortnum & Mason.
This month saw the opening of Fuego Bar and Restaurant as part of the department’s makeover. The Mediterranean tapas barhas a contemporary look and feel with hints of olive green throughout. The eatery is centred on a wood stone oven, with its name inspired by the feature which will be the focal point of the 70-cover dining space.
The design team will also open Ko Sai, a specialist noodle bar, serving up Pan-Asian dishes inspired by Thai street food. It will serve fast food options such as noodle soups for the time conscious shopper, as well as more elaborate dishes.
The ever popular 'Cafe 21' will be replaced with the Saltwater Fish Co, a seafood restaurant which will offer fast and casual seafood dining, as well as more luxurious options including a perfectly matched treat of oysters and fizz. CADA Design have been involved in creating the restaurants modern look and open layout. The design will create a dynamic atmosphere and allow diners to see, and discuss with staff, how the seafood is prepared and cooked.
Work is still being carried out on creating Mason + Rye, a cafe focussing on fine patisserie and artisan baking which is set to open this month. The cafe will offer an extensive selection of breakfast and lunch options to either eat in or take away – and the design centrepiece will be a theatre bakery, where diners will be able to watch through the glass walls as a team of dedicated patissiers craft the finest patisserie, continental viennoiserie cakes, scones and biscuits.
All of the new eateries have been designed with the finest details in mind to reflect each different culture and mood perfectly. Whether it’s sampling the finest wines or enjoying the true taste of the Mediterranean, Fenwick's new Food Hall which has been intricately planned for two years, will cater to everyone’s taste.
