Another major event in the design calendar is coming up that’s well worth having a look at. Clerkenwell Design Week takes place 19th-21st May, throughout the neighbourhood in central London. Clerkenwell itself has more architects and creative businesses per square mile than any other place in the world, making it a unique design community ideal for the event which has been running annually for six years.
Last year, over 32,300 visitors attended, with 57% of them being architects or designers, creating a great mix and enthusiasts and professionals from all levels of the industry. What’s more it’s completely free to register to attend.
Alongside several major exhibitions, showrooms, studios and galleries throughout the area will be open and participating in the festival, showcasing a massive variety of work, with many places such as Vitra, Arper and Brintons having participated for several years. The festival has earned a reputation for attracting the international community and is one of the most diverse events in interior design, drawing together talent from London, the UK, and from many different parts of the world.
Up-and-coming talent will be specifically celebrated at the Platform exhibit held at House of Detention, highlighting the most promising talents in the industry. From the more established end, the Detail exhibition held at The Order of St. John will display some of the most prestigious names in luxury interiors from around the world. The venue will also make for a great exhibition floor through the Church, Crypt and Cloister garden. Finally, The Design Factory, held at The Farmiloe Building, will showcase diverse furniture, lighting and product design from many different designers, showing styles from all areas of the industry.
The great thing about this festival is that it functions more like a street party, with a whole area of London being taken over for a few days by the best and brightest of the design community.
